Routine

The Intentional Routine
Skincare doesn't need ten steps to work. It needs the right four, done well, in the right order.
Our routine philosophy is built around four jobs your skin actually needs done — nothing more, nothing decorative. Layer these in order, and you've covered what most routines take twice as many products to accomplish.
1. Cleanse
Clean skin isn't stripped skin. The goal of cleansing is to remove the day — sweat, oil, sunscreen, everyday buildup — without removing the lipids that hold your barrier together in the process.
A cleanser that leaves skin feeling tight or squeaky isn't doing you a favor; it's just trading visible grime for invisible damage. Everything that comes after cleansing works better when the barrier underneath it is still intact.
2. Hydrate
Hydration and moisture get used interchangeably, but they're not the same job. Hydration means water — getting it into skin, and just as importantly, helping skin hold onto it.
This step leans on humectants and skin's own natural moisturizing factor to pull water in and keep it there, so everything layered on top actually has something to seal in.
3. Moisturize
Moisturizing is about lipids, not water. This step rebuilds the barrier itself — the fats and oils that keep water from evaporating out and irritants from working their way in.
Skin with a well-supported lipid barrier looks calmer, feels more comfortable, and holds up better against everyday stress: weather, washing, time, whatever the day throws at it.
4. Defend
Everything you did in the first three steps is worth protecting. Daily defense — primarily protection from UV exposure — is what keeps that work from being undone.
Unprotected sun exposure is one of the biggest drivers of visible skin aging, and the fastest way to unravel a barrier you just spent three steps rebuilding. This step isn't optional. It's what makes the rest of the routine last.
Four steps. No filler in between. If a product doesn't earn one of these four jobs, it doesn't belong in your routine — or in ours.
